Portidoodle Information

Portidoodles are a cross between a Portuguese Water Dog (PWD) and a Poodle. These dog breeds are both very similar in confirmation, hair type and temperaments. They are said to be distant relatives. Our Portidoodles are standard sized. Portidoodles are hypoallergenic in that they have a non-shedding hair coat, they can have either curly or wavy hair. Portidoodles are easy going, active, friendly and intelligent dogs. They make great family dogs, are really good with children! They are loving and loyal family pets. Portidoodles do require a good amount of mental and physical stimulation and like many breeds can be mischievous if left without their people for long periods of time. They are highly intelligent and love to learn new tricks. They can be used in many different job applications including hunting, retrieving, fishing and even service type work.

Some people prefer the mix as it can "mix" desirable traits from each breed. They are still incredibly intelligent dogs, but tend to be more easy going and have a higher desire to please. As with other animals, cross breeding two breeds can also provide some health benefits! Some of our family members have allergies and find these dog breeds easy to live with!

Originally, Portuguese Water Dogs (PWD) is a breed that was bred to work on the fishing boats in Portugal. As you may guess, they are very strong swimmers, with a strong work drive. Some of the tasks assigned to the PWD included taking out fishing nets, carrying messages between boats, herding fish, moving buoys in the water, and more. The PWD enjoys the companionship of other dogs, pets and children. They make good watchdogs as well. Some Portuguese Water Dogs may chew, so bones and chew toys are definitely recommended. Their coat is non-shedding and waterproof.

Poodles are one of several breeds of dog whose fur grows continuously and, therefore, doesn’t shed. They are particularly adept at sensing when their human friends are feeling down in the dumps, and will often come over and offer kisses and snuggles in an effort to cheer them up. Standard poodles were initially bred as working dogs and are still used by many hunters for the job of retrieving downed prey. The name “poodle”, in fact, derives from the German term “pudelhund,” which loosely translates to “puddle dog.” Poodles are excellent swimmers with a naturally water resistant coat, poodles are skilled water retrievers: In France, they are also known as “chien canard” or “duck dogs” because of their strong duck hunting skills. What’s more, their work ethic isn’t limited to helping their owners hunt. Poodles have also served as military dogs, therapy dogs and  guide dogs throughout their long history.

We have two Portuguese Water Dogs that are our family pets. We bred Daisy, our PWD with a Standard Poodle named Cash. You can see him here with Daisy, our wavy PWD. Portidoodles are loyal, active yet laid back, very friendly and highly intelligent dogs. They make excellent family dogs and do great with children!

F1bb Bernedoodle Information

F1bb Bernedoodle Puppies are the most hypoallergenic bernedoodle you can get. They have the highest possibility of no shedding of all Bernedoodle generations. The higher percentage of poodle in the mix makes these puppies a great choice for anyone with bad allergies or anyone not wanting to deal with shedding coats. F1bb Bernedoodles are intelligent, active, loving, can be mischievous and are highly trainable.

Most people agree that the Bernese Mountain doodle is a smart, calm but playful, easy going dog. These doodles need both playtime and cuddle time with their favorite humans to be happy. Bernedoodles hate spending time alone for hours so it's important that a family member or another pet keeps them company. The biggest advantage of Bernedoodles is that they make fantastic family pets. While some dogs are only suitable for adults, Bernedoodles can get along with anyone including young children. Their even temperaments, outgoing natures and innate desire to please their owners make them a terrific addition to any family.

This breed was originally combined to exhibit the positive traits of the Poodle and Bernese Mountain Dog. Bernedoodles do tend to have the best attributes of both the Bernese and the poodle. They are normally an intelligent, gentle, sociable and enthusiastic dog who is suited for family life. Bernedoodles are fun, loving, goofy, sociable, confident dogs. They are very gentle around elderly and children and seem to know what people can handle. Because of this they make perfect therapy and service dogs. They are easy to train and love to work too. Bernedoodles love to be around people. They do not do well in an outside kennel and need to be a part of the family.

Coat and Colors:

The Bernedoodles coat is a single coat that is described as a long wavy coat. Some have a straight coat. They come in a variety of different colors: solid black, black and white, black and brown, and tri-color (brown, black, and white). They also come in sable, brindle, chocolate, phantom, and merle. Some may also have markings on their chest similar to a Bernese Mountain Dog. Brushing a few times per week is recommended.

The Bernese Mountain Dog is a hardy dog who thrives in cold weather, the Berner's brain and brawn helped him multitask on the farms and pastures of Switzerland. They get along with the entire family and are particularly gentle with children, but they will often become more attached to one lucky human. A Berner wants to be with his family, and undesirable behaviors can result if he is regularly left alone for long periods of time. Berners are imposing but not threatening, and they maintain an aloof dignity with strangers. While they are certainly meant to live indoors with their family, Berners enjoy outdoor activities and make wonderful companions on long walks or hikes. Berners enjoy pulling young children in a cart too!
